About RadarChess

Live, unofficial estimates of FIDE ratings for every rated player.

FIDE updates its official ratings once a month, but rated games are played every day, so an official rating is usually a few weeks out of date. RadarChess fixes that. When a federation or organizer posts a result, RadarChess folds the games into a running estimate of each player's current rating. For events broadcast live, that takes minutes. For everything else, usually a few hours after the results appear. It covers every active player on FIDE's lists, not just the top names.

RadarChess collects finished, rated games from sources across the web, figures out which monthly rating period each one belongs to, and runs them through FIDE's published rating formula (FIDE Handbook B.02). When it has all of a player's games for a period, the estimate matches FIDE's official number to the decimal. The gaps that remain come from missing games, not the math.

The fine print

  • Unofficial. These are independent estimates, not official FIDE ratings. RadarChess isn't affiliated with FIDE.
  • Estimates. The numbers are projections from public game data, and they can be off when coverage or an event's timing is incomplete.
  • Expanding. Coverage keeps growing as new results sources come online, so a player or event that's missing today usually shows up soon after.

Feedback & corrections

RadarChess is a small, independent project I run on my own, and it gets better whenever someone points out what's wrong or missing. Something look off, on your profile or a player you follow? Played in a tournament that isn't here yet? Know a results source worth reading, or have an idea? I'd like to hear it: [email protected].
